Angry Birds has become something of a phenomenon in the world of video gaming, and has attained the kind of fame that is usually reserved for the likes of Sonic and Mario.

Rovio creative director Jaakko Iisalo — the man responsible for the concept and look of the Angry Birds games — has revealed to EDGE his main influences:

I’m still heavily inspired by the classic 8- and 16-bit era of gaming, though, Shigeru Miyamoto and Nintendo being biggest influences.

This isn’t the first time Iisalo has made this claim; in an interview with EDGE back in 2011, he admitted that he was so obsessed with the Japanese company as a child that he earned the nickname ‘Nintendo-Jaska’.

Iisalo will no doubt be pleased to learn that Miyamoto himself is a fan of his game, and has previously stated that he wished he’d come up with the idea.

What developer has not been influenced by Nintendo and Miyamoto to some degree, though?  I think even Cliffy B. from Epic Games who make games nothing like what Nintendo puts out has cited Nintendo as an influence.
